Histological identification of Campylobacter using Gimenez technique in gastric antral mucosa.

چکیده
Campylobacter pyloridis, a spiral bacterium, was formally identified by Marshall and Warren in 1984.1 The association between this organism and gastrointestinal tract disease has provoked much interest, the presence of C pyloridis being strongly associated with active chronic gastritis.2 3 In a study conducted in this laboratory on the isolation of Cpyloridis from upper gastrointestinal tract it was found that haematoxylin and eosin and Wartin-Starry staining were not satisfactory for the histological identification of Campylobacter sp; other staining methods were therefore investigated, and the Gimenez technique4 was found to be the most effective.

Study of Campylobacter Pylori in Diabetic Patients
Gastric antral biopsies were obtained from 40 insulin-dependent diabetics (IDDM) and non insulin dependent diabetics (NIDDD) in Kasr El Eini hospital (13 males and 27 females). Endoscopy showed that 47.5% of the patients have normal endoscopic appearance. Antral gastritis was present in 47.5%, oesophagitis in 15% and duodenitis in 12.5% of patients. Campylobacter pylori were isolated from the a...
متن کاملHelicobacter pylori
Spiral organisms have been noted on the gastric mucosa on many occasions over the last 100 years. In 1975, Steer and Cohn-Jones associated the presence of Gram negative bacteria on the gastric mucosa with gastritis.' However, their failure to culture the organism resulted in the finding being ignored. It was not until Warren and Marshall's report, in 1983, describing an association between the ...
متن کاملEvaluation of "CLO-test" to detect Campylobacter pyloridis in gastric mucosa.
Campylobacter pyloridis is strongly associated with the presence of histological gastritis,1 2 but its role in the aetiology of peptic ulcer disease and non-ulcer dyspepsia has yet to be determined. Its detection in antral mucosal biopsy specimens usually entails histo-logical or microbiological methods that may require several days for a result. In a previous study3 we found that direct examin...
متن کاملRapid urease test provides specific identification of Campylobacter pylori in antral mucosal biopsies.
In a prospective study, three antral biopsies were taken from 175 dyspeptic patients during routine endoscopy. One biopsy was inserted immediately into a gel-containing well of a CLOtest slide and two biopsies were sent to histopathology. Using the CLOtest, 84 of the 175 samples (48%) detected urease activity in the gastric biopsy, suggesting infection with Campylobacter pylori. Histopathologic...
متن کاملCorrelation between epithelial cell proliferation and histological grading in gastric mucosa.
AIM To determine if there is a correlation between the histological findings in the gastric mucosa and the degree of cell proliferation in gastric antral biopsies. METHODS Cell proliferation in gastric antral biopsies was determined by in vitro bromodeoxyuridine labelling. Histological sections were assessed using the Sydney System. RESULTS There was a positive correlation between antral mu...
